Worst Mom award goes to me...

I earned my first bad Mom award this weekend. I try so hard to make sure my home is baby proof and that there is nothing that Ryder can get into that would hurt him. And yet Saturday morning, I turned on Mickey Mouse in my room to entertain Ryder while I got ready for the day. I got dressed, came out of my closet to find him holding my hot hair straightener. I still have no idea how he reached it. He dropped it, looked at me, then back at his hand then he started to panic and cry. I hurried and put his hand under cool water and I thought that maybe it wasn't that bad because it took him a minute to cry, but it immediately started to blister. So I loaded him in the car to head to the doctor and made a frantic call to my husband who was up the Canyon for the starting day of his deer hunt. I walked into the doctors office crying my eyes out, the receptionist probably thought I was a crazy person. Especially since Ryder was happy as can be and I was the one hysterical. I finally got a hold of my husband and he met me at the doctors office. The doctor said it was atleast a second degree burn and he wont know if its worse for a few days. He dressed his hand and said to come back Monday where they will sedate Ryder and remove the dead layer of skin. Sedate him?? Yeah that's not going to happen. Since This happened on a Saturday we had to take him to urgent care center not his doctor, so We decided to take him to his regular Pediatrician to get a second opinion on the whole sedation thing.
His doctor prescribed him some ointment and he will go back on Wednesday to clip the skin on the blisters, no sedation. But I have been sick about it all weekend. I feel like it is all my fault and it wouldn't have happened if I was watching him better. Worst mom award goes to me!!

  1. Oh Momma! You are far from the worst Mom! I just started following you a couple weeks ago and absolutley adore litte Ryder. My sister in law fell down the stairs when her son was 7 months old and he wore a cast for 2 months. She felt so horrible and thought she was the worst Mom eve..but guess what?! He remembers nothing of it now :) he is all healed and runs like a champ and Ryder will be too! He will hardly remember this even happened :) You are a FABBBB Momma and he is so lucky to have you!

  2. I agree with the above! You are FAR from the worst Mom! I'll tell you about my 1st bad mama award that I earned just a couple weeks ago! I thought I had buried it deep and just typing this makes me cringe! My little boy who will be 15 months this week (Sutton) and I were strolling through Target (him in the top part with legs dangling) having a good ol' time...as usual. He was getting fussy so I let him stand in the basket (like I had seen other moms do MANY times!) He ABSOLUTELY loved it! I was looking at all the different breads, deciding which to get and I looked at Sutton just in time to see him looking over the very end of the shopping cart, I told him to get back just as he looked just a little further and he is top heavy! You know what's coming! :( He does a fn flip out the front of the cart and lands flat on his back on the fn target cement floor! AHHHHHH! I swoop him up and he cried for not even 2 mins and all was good! But man did I feel terrible! I was mortified that I let that happen and was so embarrassed to tell my mom and husband! I did confess, though! Needless to say Sutton is now buckled in shopping carts which my husband thinks is ridiculous but I DON'T CARE because my baby is safe! SO hang in there mama, we have ALL been there!

  3. You are NOT the worst Mom. Accidents happen..and little kids have a way of finding "danger". Don't feel bad! One time when my oldest was a toddler, he ran, slid on the floor, and cut the corner of his eye open on a chair. It happened in a split second and I started crying. I felt AWFUL. But we can't protect our kids from all the bag things in the world. No matter how bad we try!

  4. As you already know from the previous comments, you are far from the worst mom! The other day I was preparing my 12 month old son's bath water and he was playing over by the toilet and I had my back turned. He opens the drawer, gets out the travel size Scope mouth wash, opens it and drinks it. FREAKED OUT! He ended up being perfectly fine! Minty fresh breath and all ;) Hope Ryder's hand feels better soon!

  5. You are just a "normal" mom. Accidents happen and more so with little boys. I have two little boys and they find trouble wherever they can. When my now 3 year old was 15 months, he was playing while I was on the telephone with our insurance company. I had purchased a new purse and it was on the floor. He was playing with it and found the silicon beads inside. Before I knew it, he has swallowed the whole bag. I fREAKED! I called poison control and his ped and apparently there is nothing in them to hurt them. They are just a choking hazard. I felt like the worst mama on Earth that day too! Hang in there. Praying for your sweet boy! My little brother got burned when he was just 4 on his face and chest, and down one arm. He doesn't have a single scar. Hope that helps!

And like you said little boys just find trouble! I better just prepare myself because this isn't the last time something like this is going to happen. Thank you for your sweet comment!
